Local Area

Newbottle is situated in the south west corner of Northamptonshire above the Cherwell Valley looking towards the hills of Warwickshire and the Cotswolds. A deserted village, it now consists only of the Manor, the Church and two other houses. The main village is at Charlton a mile across the fields. The two nearest towns are Banbury in Oxfordshire and Brackley in Northamptonshire and the whole estate falls under the authority of South Northamptonshire District.

The village of Charlton is a thriving village with a shop, pub, village school and village hall. The Estate, which is owned by the Townsend family, has 1500 acres centred round Charlton and Newbottle, all farmed in hand. It is a mixed farm of arable and a beef herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. There are 25 houses in and around the village, the majority let on assured shorthold tenancies.

The Estate owns two other businesses in Brackley. The Old Hall Bookshop was started by John and Juliet in 1977 and sells both old and new books as well as maps and cards. Just down the road is Brackley Butchers, an independent butchers that sells the Newbottle Estate beef.
